Computer Associates eTrust EZ Antivirus 2005 6.2 isn t going to win any beauty contests. Its interface is as drab as they come, but then again, eTrust EZ Antivirus is blazingly fast--in fact, it s one of the speediest antivirus apps we ve ever tested. And since it barely draws on your system s resources, it won t slow your work to a crawl during background scans. Its sub- 30 price is bound to appeal to small businesses and home users, too. To be a complete security solution, though, EZ Antivirus should include a firewall--and it doesn t. Also, its e-mail scanner checks inbound messages only, and there aren t enough additions to this version of the software to warrant an upgrade from EZ Antivirus 6.1. Despite these shortcomings, however, this speedy virus buster is a solid choice for new users who already have a software firewall installed. Computer Associates eTrust EZ Antivirus 2005 is easy to install: download the diminutive 4.12MB setup file, launch it, and click Next several times to load eTrust. In our informal tests, EZ Antivirus 2005 automatically downloaded its latest viral signatures as all good antivirus programs should and scanned our test computer once its setup was complete. A full scan of our test system a 600MHz Celeron CPU, with 256MB of RAM and a 14GB hard drive took about 20 minutes. During the scan, we were able to work normally in Word and Internet Explorer with only a slight performance degradation--a strong indicator of eTrust s light impact on system performance.

EZ Antivirus 2005 s Options Wizard, which steps you through the process of configuring EZ Antivirus 2005, is the best feature of an otherwise uninspired interface.
The program s uninspired interface features an old-fashioned file tree and tiny, indecipherable icons that mimic the aesthetic splendor of Windows File Manager circa 1995; it is unchanged from version 6.1. That s bad news for novices who want to schedule unattended scans; change the default action on infected files, for example, clean or delete; and so on. Yes, there s a handy Options Wizard that steps you through these basic configuration tasks, but you ll need to comb the menu bar first to find it.
One nice addition to EZ Antivirus 2005 is a taskbar tray icon that flashes when the program notices antivirus detection problems, such as when a virus attempts to disable your antivirus protection. To access more details about a given problem, right-click the flashing icon to trigger a pop-up dialog box. In our tests, the icon flashed often, warning us of a problem with the AutoDownload feature, which retrieves updated signature and program files. The problem later resolved itself, although we never discovered what caused it. Version 2005 of Computer Associates eTrust EZ Antivirus is only a minor upgrade from EZ Antivirus 6.1. One of the most compelling new features is the program s ability to scan incoming messages and their attachments in popular POP3 e-mail clients, including Eudora, Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express, Netscape Mail, Pegasus, and others. But unlike Norton AntiVirus 2004 and other leading virus fighters, EZ Antivirus doesn t scan outbound e-mail, which is a helpful security tool for blocking worms embedded in outgoing messages.

EZ Antivirus 2005 s nondescript interface, perhaps inspired by Windows Explorer, is essentially unchanged from last year s version.
EZ Antivirus 2005 s real-time scanner takes a more aggressive approach to virus protection than previous versions. In version 6.1, the scanner warned you when it detected an infected file, then it quarantined and renamed the file. EZ Antivirus now cleans the file and any Registry entries that might have been affected.
Another noteworthy upgrade concerns compressed files. EZ Antivirus now scans CAB and MIME file formats, in additional to a dozen or so other archival file formats, including the ubiquitous ZIP format. Version 2005 doesn t include a firewall, but then neither do Norton and McAfee VirusScan 8.0, both of which cost about 20 more than EZ Antivirus. And while Windows XP SP2 will enable the Microsoft Firewall, it doesn t provide both inbound and outbound protection--you ll still need a third-party firewall. To find both firewall and antivirus protection in one package, try Computer Associates EZ Armor, Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2004, or ZoneAlarm with Antivirus. In CNET Labs tests, EZ Antivirus 2005 caused less system performance drag than McAfee VirusScan, Norton AntiVirus, or Trend Micro PC-cillin. However, PC-cillin remains the speed champ, scanning our 1.3GB hard drive faster than any antivirus software product we ve tested.
To measure EZ Antivirus 2005 s impact on system performance, CNET Labs used BAPCo s SysMark 2002, an industry-standard benchmark. The Internet-content-creation portion of SysMark measures a desktop s performance running off-the-shelf applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Windows Media Encoder, and Macromedia Dreamweaver. We did not run the Office Productivity portion of the benchmark because it incorporates McAfee VirusScan 5.13.
Our test system was a Compaq Evo W4000, running Windows XP Professional, with an Intel P4 2.4GHz processor and 512MB DDR RAM. With EZ Antivirus 2005 running, our test system scored a remarkable 100--with no reduction in overall system speed. By comparison, McAfee scored a 97, or a 3 percent decrease; Norton AntiVirus 2003 scored a 95, a 5 percent reduction. An Internet-content-creation score of 100 represents the performance of our test system without any extraneous software running. In a test of scanning speed, EZ Antivirus 2005 took an average of 2.6 minutes to scan a 1.3GB directory, but that couldn t match speed-demon PC-cillin, which averaged 2.4 minutes.

In our tests, e-mail queries were answered relatively quickly--typically within 3 hours in an industry where a 24-hour turnaround is standard. The replies were polite and helpful, too. For instance, our problem with the flashing EZ Antivirus icon in the taskbar tray was attributed to a temporary problem with the vendor s AutoDownload server. The problem eventually resolved itself. Topic: Media Player Classic Playback Output lots of questions Read 3443 times
I recently reformatted by computer yesterday and when I installed CCCP, my sound kept crackling/hissing immediately after opening a file. After a few seconds, the sound would completely die, and even the video would stutter. I tried tweaking some settings and whatnot, but I couldn t figure out the problem for the life of me.
I seriously thought it was my sound card/driver for the longest time Creative X-Fi Elite Pro. However, I tried messing with the options in MPC under Playback and Output. I didn t think it could be one of the DirectShow Video options, so I didn t really bother. But since I had no choice, I thought why not. Sure enough, I switched it from System Default to Haali s Video Renderer and bingo. Everything s fine. There is no more crackling audio and even the video doesn t stutter anymore.
So I have several questions.
Why did video option fix the audio.
Which DirectShow Video option is the best if I m running Vista 64-bit w/ 9800GTX and E8400. Haali s.
How about the DirectShow Audio. Which is best.
Is there is difference between Speakers Creative SB X-Fi 00200000 and DirectSound: Speakers Creative SB X-Fi 00200000.

hi everyone
if anyone has NVIDIA card of the series FX 5200 and doesn t know how to work it on
windows 7 32bit here is the way. I tried it successfully.
1. install the free driver from the link below:
it is about 33 MB of size.
2. run the install file.
3. after install is finished you ll be asked if you want to restart now, click yes.
4. after the restart adjust the resolution from the option Screen resolution that appears when make a right click on desktop. if you click Advanced settings on the same window you will notice that the adapter is now NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200.
untill this point the installation is finished but the aero isn t yet at work, do this to make it work:
1. go to control panel and choose: performance and information tools.
2. on the opened window we will see highlight with a text telling of the new device click Refresh when asked or Re-run the assessment from below the window.
the aero and 3d effects will be run and activated automatically.
On NIVIDA s page it says the driver is for windows vista but it works properly with windows 7.
I hope I made it clear and. . that s all I ve got.

I can hack this for you to make it install without issue.
I need you to post 2 things.
1 In the extracted NVIDIA driver folder you have at C: NVIDIA - somewhere in there is a nv_disp.inf. Please zip that and attach to a post.
2 Open device manager. Right click on standard vga. Choose properties. Details tab. Change the dropdown to hardware ids. Copy/paste that info shown below to a post with the above attachment.
In my reply, you will get a modified. inf to replace over the exisiting one. Then I will also have precise instructions on how to install.

The hardware id that you posted is for the SiS onboard graphics that would be even weaker than the NVIDIA card you have.
Here s what to do:
1 Shutdown the machine.
2 Boot to bios.
3 Disable the onboard vga setting and save usually f10 saves.
4 Power off the machine again.
5 Plug the monitor into the video card instead of the motherboard, like it is now.
6 Reboot to Windows and install the driver for 32 bit in the normal method:
if i put the video card in the monitor does not do anything..even it is plugged into the video card

and it my monitor isn t plugged into my card.. its is plugged into my motherboard
i do have a second monitor that is plugged into my card and it does nothing after i plug the card in when the computer is already on

Yes. Turn off the pc. Plug in the card. Plug monitor into card. Go to bios and set initial display device to AGP. Save. Reboot to Windows and install the NVIDIA driver.
DON T plug in the card with power on the machine going. That would not be good at all.
well whenever i plug the card in and then the monitor, the monitor does not do anything that is the main problem
Try having a monitor plugged into the motherboard with the card also in.
Then go to bios and set AGP for the initial display. Save.
Turn off pc. Plug monitor into card instead now. Turn on pc and boot to Windows.
that doesn t work i have had a monitor plugged in both and nothing, had one plugged in one and nothing.. i did change the displays to AGP but it didn t make a difference the only way i can get my monitor to work is without the card plugged in at all
The card itself could be no good.
Anyhow, even though the card would be better than the onboard SiS graphics, it s not going to make a world of a difference in anything you do, performance-wise.
Very much recommend a completely new machine to run Windows 7.

It is a 32 bit version.
When you are in the device manager - properties of the graphical card - 2nd tab driver - 4th line I translate from the french : Numeric signature : non signed numerically
For me it is linked to the nv_disp file. I have 2 files : the one modified inf that I copy in the folder and helps me to install the driver - a second one from type catalog security I opened it and there is a lot of information concerning numerical certication.

But I get on the genera tab of the properties an error message that Windows stopped the devive error 43.
When I try to modified the display resolution, the device shown is default screen and in the advanced properties the nvidia graphic card is not displayed only generic.

That means that the card can not communicate with the motherboard.
if you have a chipset of nForce3 or below, it can not work on Vista or 7. Then you have to use XP.
If you have a different chipset, it can work. Update the motherboard bios to newest and install the latest chipset drivers.
Which motherboard do you have. I can show you what to install or tell you if it can work at all.

Where do I find the information on the nForce3 chipset. I searched in the device manager - in the details of the graphical card but I don t what exactly to serach.

I just installed the modified 96.85 driver downloaded from www.laptop2go and followed the instructions wrote by msaif in this forum. The resolution I got is the recommended by Microsoft, 1440 x 900 but aero has to be disabled in order the system doesn t crash.
My id hardware is:

I did everything you say here but Aero doesn t work properly. I mean, the screen resolution is the one recommended by Microsoft 1440x900 but Aero has to be disabled so that the system doesn t fail; however, from time to time the screen blinks.
My computer is a laptop Toshiba P25 series and the graphic card in Geforce Fx Go 5200.
